Thomas Rösner

Conductor

Viennese born Thomas Rösner conducted his first orchestral concerts at the age of fourteen. It was an invitation from Fabio Luisi that marked the beginning of his international career, when he was engaged to conduct the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Rösner has enjoyed great success at many opera houses for his interpretations Viennese classics – such as Così fan tutte at the Théâtre de la Monnaie directed by Michael Haneke, Die Zauberflöte with Robert Lepage at the Opera Festival Quebec in a coproduction with the Met, Fidelio at Zurich Opera, Le nozze di Figaro and Die Fledermaus at Glyndebourne or Entführung aus dem Serail at the Houston Grand Opera. Rösner’s recent operatic work includes Die Königskinder and Die Fledermaus at the Semperoper in Dresden, Die Zauberflöte and Die lustige Witwe at the Korean National Opera and the NCPA in Beijing, L’elisir d’amore at La Monnaie in Brussels, Die tote Stadt and Hänsel und Gretel at the Opéra National de Lorraine. He has also conducted at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the State Opera in Stuttgart, Volksoper in Vienna, the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, the New National Theatre in Tokyo, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Edinburgh Festival, the Welsh National Opera and at the Opera National de Lyon. Thomas Rösner has been associated conductor of Hans Graf at the Orchestre National de Bordeaux, music director of the festival operklosterneuburg in Austria, and Chief Conductor of the Orchestre Symphonique Bienne in Switzerland. He holds currently the position of Artistic Director of the Beethoven Philharmonie in Vienna. Thomas Rösner has been invited to conduct many orchestras, including the Wiener Symphoniker, Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Philharmonia Prague, Sinfonia Varsovia, Basle Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Toscanini Filarmonica Parma, Les Violons du Roy in Montreal and the Israel Sinfonietta. Current and future projects include Elisir d’amore at the NCPA in Beijing, La clemenza di Tito at Opéra Royal de la Wallonie, his debut at the Bern State Theater, concerts with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony, Macao Symphony, Bournemouth Symphony, Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy and with the Beethoven Philharmonie at the Konzerthaus in Vienna. Thomas has a wide range discography including Verdi’s Il Trovatore (Bregenz Festival/ Wiener Symphoniker) and Lehar’s Das Land des Lächelns on DVD. He has recorded Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass in the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona as well as two discs with the Bamberg Symphony and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra dedicated to the rediscovery of the music of Paul Kletzki. His newest CD couleurs –also with Bamberg Symphony – for Ordradek records is going to be released in January 2020. His CD “Haydn Arias & Overtures” was the winner of the Juno Award in Toronto.
